What is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is a general term for several disciplines that utilize many forms of body work techniques to promote healing and health.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

  • Improve circulation by pumping oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs.
  • Strengthen the immune system by stimulating lymph flow (our body’s natural defense system).
  • Improve joint flexibility and range of motion.
  • Decrease depression and anxiety by stimulating the nervous system.
  • Reduce muscle spasms and cramping.
  • Relax overexerted muscles as well as aid in recovery.
  • Reduce pain in the body. Massage releases endorphins that act as natural pain relievers.
  • Increase energy and reduce fatigue.
  • Stretch and lengthen muscles.
  • Stimulate weak muscles.
  • Promote tissue regeneration.
  • Relieve migraine and tension headaches.
  • Create body and self awareness.
  • Improvement of overall health.

What to Expect During a Massage Therapy Session:

New clients should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment time. You will be asked to fill out a short intake form. Each session begins with a brief consultation to discuss the reason for your visit and goals for your treatment plan. The therapist will leave the room to give you time to get comfortable under the sheets. During the session you will be completely covered with a top sheet and blanket. Only one body part at a time is exposed and you will be elegantly draped with the sheets to cover you completely and securely. Each session is customized to you. During your massage please communicate the amount of pressure you prefer, room temperature and even music choices. At any time during the massage I encourage you to speak out if anything feels uncomfortable. After each session it is important to stay well hydrated to push toxins out of your system. Depending on each individual, a massage at least every 3-4 weeks for maintenance is recommended.
